A Shopify discount popup that applies the code before checkout

Most discount popups hand out one code to everyone and hope it survives the trip to the discount field. Resparq shows the offer as a shopper with a full cart goes to leave, with a single-use code minted for that shopper, and puts it on the order before checkout loads if they accept. In AI mode the AI sizes the offer per shopper, and some shoppers get no discount at all.

Discount code before checkout

The code is on the order before the checkout page loads

A copied code has to survive the cart page, the checkout form and a field that is easy to miss on a phone. Resparq skips all of that. When the shopper taps accept, it routes them through Shopify's own discount link and straight to checkout, with the code already applied.

The code itself is minted in Shopify for that shopper before the modal shows: one use, once per customer, gone in 24 hours. Whoever ends up with it, it redeems once and then it is dead, so a margin you meant for one order never pays for ten. Prefer one shared code that is easy to track? Switch the code mode to generic and Resparq creates one branded code, like YOURSTORESAVE10, with no expiry and no usage limit, and applies that instead; on a generic code the AI stops sizing the offer and every shopper gets that one amount. In Guided and AI mode the code can be minted the moment a decision is made for a shopper, before any trigger fires, so your Shopify discounts list grows with eligible visits, not only with modals shown. Unused codes expire on their own in 24 hours.

Offer sizing

One number for everyone, or a number per shopper

The right discount is different for every shopper. How much of that decision you hand to the AI is a mode setting, not a reinstall.

Starter and up

Manual mode

You set one amount, percent or dollars, and the copy around it. Every shopper the trigger catches gets the same offer.

Pro and up

Guided mode

You pin one amount. The AI decides who sees it, when, and how it is worded, and never goes above your number. Pin zero and every modal is a reminder.

Pro and up

AI mode

The AI sizes the offer per shopper from an aggression level you set, under an optional weekly or monthly budget cap. Three lanes you can switch on or off: percent off, dollars off, and a threshold that unlocks at a bigger cart. Some shoppers get a reminder with no discount.

The signals the AI reads include cart value, item count, time on site, scroll depth, device, traffic source, visit frequency, past abandonment and failed coupon attempts. None of them is an email address.

Discount popup examples

Four discount popup examples, and what decides each one

Two of the layouts and two offer types, illustrated, with the mode that produces each. In Manual mode the copy, offer and layout are yours. In Guided and AI mode the AI tests copy from its own pool and picks the layout; you pin the amount in Guided mode or set the aggression level in AI mode.

Coupon ticket, flat discount

Any mode

The simplest shape. One amount, one button. The code is minted for this shopper before the modal shows and is already on the order at checkout if they accept. In Manual mode this is the modal you write. In Guided and AI mode the number is your pin or the AI's, and the copy and layout come from the AI's pool.

Threshold offer

AI mode

The discount only applies once the cart reaches the threshold, so the margin buys a bigger order. The AI keeps it away from shoppers who look unlikely to buy; they get a flat discount or nothing. The cart has to be big enough to carry the ask. On a threshold modal in AI mode the headline states the condition and the two buttons are fixed (Add Items & Save, Checkout Now); none of it comes from your copy.

Reminder, no discount

AI mode

Not every shopper needs a discount. When the signals say this one is likely to buy, the AI shows a reminder and keeps the margin. Once a store has enough recent outcomes in both arms for a given kind of shopper, the AI compares what reminders and discounts actually earned there and adjusts. In Guided mode a pin of zero makes every modal a reminder instead, with no per-shopper choice.

Timer front

Any mode with unique codes

In Guided and AI mode the clock counts down to the code’s real expiry, whether it was just minted or is being reused for a returning shopper. In Manual mode a reused code shows a fresh 24-hour window instead. Reminders have nothing to expire, so this layout never shows a clock on them.

Ten layouts on every plan: Classic Card, Cart Preservation, Top Banner, Bottom Sheet, Coupon Ticket, Split Hero, Timer Front, Scratch Reveal, Editorial and Corner Toast. Copy presets: Discount Offer, Limited Time, Social Proof and Cart Reminder. Enterprise adds custom CSS and removes the Resparq badge.

FAQ

Discount popup questions

When a shopper accepts the offer, Resparq sends them through Shopify's own discount link, the same mechanism as a /discount/CODE URL, and on to checkout. The code is on the order before the checkout page loads. Nothing to copy, nothing to paste into the discount field, nothing to lose.

By default, yes. Resparq mints a code in Shopify for each shopper it decides a discount for, which in Guided and AI mode happens before any trigger fires: one use, once per customer, expiring 24 hours after it is created, so a code that is never accepted simply expires. If you would rather have one shared code that is easy to track, switch the code mode to generic: Resparq creates one branded code, like YOURSTORESAVE10, with no expiry and no usage limit, and applies that instead. On a generic code the AI stops sizing the offer and the threshold lane is off; every shopper gets that one amount.

Depends on the mode. In Manual mode you set one amount and every shopper who triggers the popup gets it. In Guided mode you pin one amount and the AI decides who sees it, when, and how it is worded, never going above your number. In AI mode the AI sizes the offer per shopper within the aggression level you set, under an optional weekly or monthly discount budget cap, and some shoppers get a reminder with no discount at all.

Yes, in AI mode. The threshold lane offers a discount that only applies once the cart reaches a higher total, so the margin is spent on a bigger order. The AI never picks it for shoppers who look unlikely to buy; they get a flat discount or nothing. Shoppers in the middle get it when the signals point to a bigger order, and the cart has to be big enough to carry the ask.

In Guided mode and AI mode on Pro and Enterprise, 10% of eligible shoppers are held out and never shown a modal, so the dashboard reports lift against that group once it clears 30 visitors. Starter runs in Manual mode with no holdout, so the discount you set shows to everyone the trigger catches.

One full modal per session (Enterprise stores can opt in to a pill-first surface that may escalate to a modal), then a cooldown in days (3 by default, adjustable on Pro and up in Manual or Guided mode), which lengthens with each dismissal up to 30 days, plus a cap on shows per 30 days (5 by default, adjustable the same way). A shopper who buys enters a quiet period, 30 days by default, with no modal; a pill from a still-valid code can linger for up to 24 hours. A dismissed discount offer survives as that small pill for up to 24 hours, even across visits; one tap on it applies the code and goes to checkout. If another app already has a popup open, Resparq waits rather than stacking. Where the store runs a consent banner and the shopper declines, none of this is kept between visits, so the cooldown and the pill start over each visit.

Yes. On desktop the exit trigger watches for the cursor leaving the page, and in Guided and AI mode a variant can also fire on a timer on the page, on any device. On mobile there is no cursor, so Guided mode and AI mode use that timer, starting once the cart has items, and, for exit-intent variants, the shopper coming back to the tab after switching away. Manual mode on any plan can switch on a time-delay trigger that fires once the cart has items. The Bottom Sheet layout is built for phones.

No code. Install from the Shopify App Store, switch on the Resparq app embed in the theme editor, then switch the modal on from the Resparq dashboard. Two toggles, and it works with any Shopify theme. The scripts load deferred, after the page has rendered.

Starter is free: Manual mode, up to 1,000 impressions a month. Pro is $50 a month flat and adds Guided mode and AI mode. Enterprise is $150 a month for unlimited impressions, custom CSS and white-label modals. Paid plans include a 14-day free trial, with no setup fees and no commission on recovered orders.
