An exit intent popup for Shopify, built to recover abandoned carts

Exit intent is the trigger. Cart recovery is the job. When a shopper with items in the cart goes to leave, or lingers, Resparq shows an offer or a reminder, and if they accept a discount the code is already on the cart at checkout. No email field, no theme code, and limits on how often anyone sees it.

Exit intent detection

How the exit popup is triggered on desktop and mobile

Every trigger needs items in the cart: Guided and AI mode check when the trigger is armed; in Manual mode the time-delay trigger checks when it arms and the exit trigger when it fires. Manual mode uses the signals you switch on. Guided and AI mode let each variant pick its own timing, so the modal can catch a shopper who is leaving or one who has lingered with a full cart.

1

Desktop exit intent

The exit trigger, on by default in every mode, watches for the cursor leaving the page toward the tab bar or the back button. It needs items in the cart: Guided and AI mode check when it is armed, Manual mode when it fires.

2

Timing per variant, Guided and AI mode

Each variant the AI tests picks its own timing: exit intent, a countdown on the page that starts once the cart has items, or either. So on Pro and up a shopper who has spent a while on a page with a full cart can see the modal on desktop too, not only on the way out.

3

Mobile, Guided and AI mode

No cursor, so the variant falls back to timers: the same countdown on the page and, for exit-intent variants, the shopper coming back to the tab after switching away.

4

Mobile, Manual mode

A time-delay trigger you can switch on that fires once the cart has items, on any plan, on any device.

5

Right away, Enterprise AI mode

After a failed coupon attempt, a checkout exit, or a cart left stale, the modal can show without waiting for a leaving signal.

6

When it stays hidden

A cart that never had items. Another app's popup already open. A shopper inside the cooldown or past the 30-day cap. A shopper in the holdout group in Guided or AI mode.

What the popup shows

An offer, a reminder, or nothing, depending on the mode

Start with your own number and hand over more when you trust the results. Switching modes is a setting, not a reinstall.

Starter and up

Manual mode

The discount modal you wrote, with your headline, body and code. It shows to every shopper who triggers it.

Pro and up

Guided mode

Your pinned offer. The AI decides who sees it, when, and how it is worded, and never goes above the number you set. Pin zero and every modal is a reminder.

Pro and up

AI mode

A discount sized per shopper within the aggression level you set, a reminder, or nothing at all. Copy, trigger and layout are tested on their own.

Whatever shows, an accepted discount is applied to the cart automatically. More on the modes in Manual, Guided, or AI mode.

Frequency caps

An exit popup that knows when to stay out of the way

Two limits apply on every plan, adjustable on Pro and up in Manual or Guided mode. A cooldown in days after a shopper dismisses the popup, which lengthens with each dismissal up to 30 days. And a cap on how many times one shopper can see it in 30 days.

One modal at a time: if another app already has a popup open, Resparq waits rather than stacking. Where the store runs a consent banner, Resparq reads the answer through Shopify's Customer Privacy API and stores nothing persistent in the browser of a shopper who declined.

Shopify's abandoned checkout email still goes out afterwards to shoppers who reached checkout. The abandoned cart app page covers how the two fit together.

Exit popup software, compared

Not an email popup, not a coupon on a timer

Most exit intent popup software for Shopify grows a list or hands everyone the same code. Resparq is built for the moment a full cart is about to walk, and nothing else.

Exit intent popup questions

A modal that appears when a visitor shows signs of leaving the page instead of on a timer or on arrival. On desktop the signal is the cursor moving out of the page toward the tab bar or the back button. Resparq uses it for one job: a shopper with items in the cart is about to leave, so the popup makes the case for checking out now, with an offer when one is warranted.

There is no cursor on a phone, so a true exit signal does not exist there. Guided mode and AI mode fall back to timers: a countdown on the page, starting once the cart has items and restarting on each page view, and, for exit-intent variants, the shopper coming back to the tab after switching away. Manual mode on any plan can switch on a time-delay trigger that fires once the cart has items, on phones as well as desktop. The modal itself is responsive and sized for phones.

No. Two frequency limits apply on every plan, adjustable on Pro and up in Manual or Guided mode: a cooldown in days after a shopper dismisses it, which lengthens with each dismissal up to 30 days, and a cap on how many times one shopper can see it in 30 days. One modal at a time, too: if another app already has a popup open, Resparq waits. In Guided mode and AI mode on Pro and Enterprise, 10% of eligible shoppers are held out and never shown a modal at all, so the dashboard can measure lift against them. Starter runs in Manual mode with no holdout.

Yes, in AI mode on Pro and Enterprise: the AI sizes the offer per shopper within the aggression level you set, and some shoppers get a reminder with no discount. In Guided mode you pin one offer and the AI decides who sees a modal, when, and how it is worded; it never goes above your number, and a pin of zero makes every modal a reminder. Starter runs Manual mode, where the discount modal you write shows to every shopper who triggers it.

Yes. The popup never asks for an email address, so it does not compete with a signup popup for the same job. On the page it checks for a visible popup from another app before showing and waits if one is open, so two modals never stack. Klaviyo, Omnisend and similar apps keep working the way they did.

No theme code. Install from the Shopify App Store, switch on the Resparq app embed in the theme editor, then switch the modal on from the Resparq dashboard. Two toggles, works with any Shopify theme. The scripts load deferred, after the page has rendered, so they do not block the store's content.

When a shopper accepts an offer, the code is applied to the cart automatically, so it is already there at checkout. Nothing to copy, nothing to paste, nothing to forget. Shopify handles the checkout as normal.

No, and both can run. Shopify's email goes out hours after a shopper who reached checkout with contact details leaves. The exit intent popup acts on the store itself, before the shopper has gone, and needs no address. The abandoned cart app page covers the difference in detail.

Starter is free: Manual mode, up to 1,000 impressions a month. Pro is $50 a month flat and adds Guided mode and AI mode. Enterprise is $150 a month for unlimited impressions and white-label modals. Paid plans include a 14-day free trial, with no setup fees and no commission on recovered orders.
